More town houses for downtown?

CityHomes, the division of Dallas-based Centex Homes that builds urban town houses, is looking at a possible second project in downtown Fort Worth.

The company recently put under contract a 3-acre tract just north of Belknap Street, near Peach Street, and is considering a development that would have commercial space at the street level and residential units above, said Steve Magee, vice president of land for Centex Homes' DFW division.
CityHomes' contract is with the developers of Trinity Bluff on the north end of downtown, which is headed by Tom Struhs.

Magee said his company will take the next 60 days to look at a possible project and decide what product would fit in.

"There's been no final decision. We haven't done anything other than put the property under contract," Magee said. But, he added, "We hope to be a part of the Bluff's long-term. We think the site is a complete winner."

Magee said the development may be similar to the 50-unit "stacked flat" condominium development CityHomes has under construction off Henderson Street, at Lexington and 10th streets, on the near west side. The single-floor condos will range from 1,000 square feet to 1,300 square feet and from $200,000 to $300,000.

CityHomes bought that land in March from the estate of Moorman Meador, who ran a Oldsmobile and Chrysler dealership there. Magee said the company has demolished the old dealership buildings and has removed an underground fuel tank to begin construction on the town houses.
In March, CityHomes called the development Fronterra, but it has since changed the name to Westview by CityHomes, he said.

"The site looks good," Magee said.
